Over a year since my first blog post!

One year on

How time flies?!

I've only just realised that it is now more than 12 months since this humble blog was launched with this post.

The original purpose of the blog was to reflect on the process of initiating my first class blogging project with a group of upper intermediate students, however, I quickly found that there was a lot more I needed to share or get off my chest!

I think the experience of blogging has really helped me to reflect on what I think about what I do as a language teacher. Exposing your thoughts to a potentially unlimited audience is sometimes nerve-wracking, but it has been really nice to interact online with other teachers in different contexts. It is really motivating to receive helpful comments, so thanks to everyone who has been nice enough to leave a comment, apologies if I didn't get around to replying! Actually, that has been something I've really tried to concentrate on as time has gone by.

Rooting through the archives

It was really nice of ESL Library to link to one of my posts the other day and as a result of that opportunity to check out a blast from my past, I've decided to post a list of links to some of my own favourite posts from my first year of blogging, so here they are, enjoy!

Thoughts on a career in TEFL

I like this because it was something that I really wanted to get off my chest at the time and it was nice to have some comments that let me know it wasn't just me.

An Empty Teachers' Room

This post essentially explains why I started blogging and using twitter and man, I'm glad I did!

Dogme for all?

I chose this one because it was the first time I responded to a blog meme, theme thingy and also because I received some interesting comments that I have enjoyed revisiting.

Grammar: is it a dirty word?

This one I remember fondly because it was written after being motivated by a fantastic #eltchat session. This was from the old days when there was an audio follow up rather than the current format of blog post reviews.

The Classroom 'Garden': a bean update

This was a project that I really enjoyed doing with a couple of young learner classes last year. I made a short video showing off the growing beans, lentils and chickpeas and a bit of the work the kids had done. They seemed to really enjoy the project and so did I!

Many thanks to everyone who reads, follows and/or comments on this blog. Let's face it, without the comments, I wouldn't have bothered carrying on! It's been worth it for me, I hope that some other people have benefitted in a small way from something I have posted.

Feedback

Also, I thought it might be an idea to get some feedback on the blog as I'm sure I could do something to improve it. So please let me know what you think is good or give me some constructive criticism so that I can try to do this blogging thing a bit better.  If you have a moment, please leave a comment, anonymous or otherwise here. Thanks!
