Verb "To be" and its Agreement


 How to use  ?To be? verbs (is , are ,am)
  • "Is" ? it is a singular verb and comes with singular third person.  Like - ( he is a god student),
  •  "Am" -  come with first person singular 
  •  "Are" -  with third person plural
To be verbs comes with compliment / predicate - like.
Subject +verb ?to be? + compliment


  • He is gentleman.
  • He is a sportsman .
  • This house is mine.
  • The weather is fine.
Sub+ verb to be + infinitive
Sub +is/are/am/was/were/are+ infinitive


  • She is to come today.
  • They are to attend the party today.
  • They were to play match here.
  • You are to meet me tomorrow.
  • I am to leave tomorrow.
It+ is/was/ infinitive / adjective / gerund

  • It is easy to say him clearly.
  • It is to happen.
  • It is foolish to waste time like this.
  • It is god that you told me earlier.


Sub+ verb to be + ing

  • He is reading.
  • He is listening music.
  • They are coming.
  • They were going.
Passive voice with help of to be verb

  • She was called.
  • He was being called.
  • I was invited.
  • They were not invited.
Sub+ was / were + Perfect infinitive
This formation is used to make sentence, if some task are happened to be in the past but could not be happened.- Like
  • She was to have come yesterday but she had to postpone her plan for a month.


To make a question (Interrogative)
to make question we start our sentence with help of  ?to be verb? and then subject like

  • Are you busy ?
  • Is she coming?
  • Are they have come?
  • Am I looking good?
  • Were they invited?
To make sentence of supposition or impossible

  • Were + subject compliment/predicate
  • Were I a princess.
  • Were I a bird.
  • Were I there.
  • Were u are with me.

 Make these sentence with help    "If"- like
If I were a king.
If I were a princess.
If he were young.
If I were there.
