Past Perfect Tense



  1. Rules ? Time expression of past time is used here with ?had? + third form of verb.
  2. Past perfect tense is used in complex sentence.
  3. in past perfect tense there are two sentences always joined with two words like ?before? or ?after?.
  4. Principal cause  sentences always come with ?had? or third form of verb.
  5.  subordinate cause come with  subject + second form of verb.
Affirmative Sentences
  • He had left India before independence.
  • He had already gone.
  • He had already gone.
  • I had taken my dinner before sunset.
  • She has performed before you reached there.
  • The patient had died before the doctor reached.
  • She came after teacher had left.
Negative sentences
  • Rule ? In principal cause we use ?not? after ?had? (had not)
  • In subordinate cause ?did not? +?first form? of the verb
  • I did not take my dinner after the sun had set.
  • He had not gone before you reached there.
  • The patient had not died before the doctor reached
